This is a shaded, well kept playground within 10 minutes of interstate. There's a small used bookstore across the street. Hard to ask for more when you're traveling. A few more non-threatening bugs is a small price to pay for the shade.

Winthrop Park is a pretty large park with all kinds of sporting areas, a nice playground, and large, open field space. Multiple baseball fields, a triple tennis court, and likely other sports that I haven't had the chance to see yet. Very pleasant for walking and enjoying the outdoors.

The park itself is great, but unfortunately the referees chosen to officiate the baseball games here are very disappointing. There have been numerous instances of questionable and unfair calls, especially when it seems like the referees are trying to rush through the games so they can leave earlier. On one occasion, a referee was even attempting to hurry an injured player off the field, which was very concerning. Specifically, these referees love to call ground balls a strike and quite frankly it seems as if that is there specialty. There have also been many games where my brother’s team was negatively affected by poor calls that clearly impacted the outcome. It has happened often enough that it starts to feel like the bad calls are consistently directed toward whichever team my brother happens to be playing on. If you are looking for a place for your child to play baseball, you may want to consider other options. My brother and sister both had much better experiences playing in the city league at Tom Brown Park and Jack McLean Park. Even Ninth and Terrace Park offers a better experience than this location. Big shaded playground, nice covered Pavillion, lots of wide open space. Tennis courts recently redone, also has a basketball, and squash ball area. It's our favorite playground.

A 13 acre park just south of Betton Road. The park includes baseball/softball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts, a large shaded playground, restrooms, several rose gardens, and plenty of open green space.
